Little Red Kitchen

Let's start cooking! The boys love helping me out in the kitchen so I decided to build a play kitchen for them from a side table I have for years. I don't have the before pictures but you can imagine a simple plain light oak side table. Now they can help me cook by not helping me cook.

I used the same colors as their bedroom. Red, blue and yellow. Nautical theme. They love it and I love that it keeps them busy for minutes.

It's tough to get my little 5 year boy to do stuff around the house. So, I came up with a cute little chart to get him going.



But I have to admit, it worked for the first 2-3 weeks and now he does not care too much about it. I gave him $1 a week. The day he gets his dollar he wanted me to take him to the store to buy himself ring pops. As of right now, he have saved up ZERO dollars!

Ahhh... the smell of summer

This is the fourth day of summer but here in Atlanta summer has started weeks ago. We have been blessed (I say tortured) with temperatures in the mid-90's, with the heat index above 100 degrees. It's too hot to be outside! As soon as you walk out, you would get sun burned. I'm I complaining?

I love the smell of summer. Freshly cut grass, barbeque, flowers blooming and grapefruit! Yes, I made homemade grapefruit and ginger bath salt. Ahhhhh. Relaxing. Soothing. Just shut the bathroom door and ignore the kids or you can bribe them with snacks and cartoon while you take some time to yourself.

I used salt (kosher and sea salt), baking soda (makes your skin soft), grated grapefruit, ginger powder (you can substitute it with freshly grate ginger), essential oil and food coloring.

Easy peasey!

For the love of cake... DIAPER CAKE!

I wanted to make something special for the Boss and his wife before the baby was born. Something different but within my budget. So what came to mind... a diaper cake. I have never made one before but I thought it would be fun.

So, I skipped lunch and off to target for my pack of diapers and next was my favorite place... the Dollar Store. I grab all the pink baby stuff I could find. Pink, pink and more pink. Everything for under $20... woo hoo!!!! My cart looked like a bottle of Pepto Bismol exploded!

The Cat in the Hat

So, I have been done transforming the boys bathroom into a Dr. Seuss theme bathroom for quite some time now. But since we have decided to move, I painted over the entire bathroom to the original color. I decided on this theme because their bathtub/shower tiles are these ugly outdated yellow-ish color.

I don't have the before pictures but here are a few after. I painted The Cat in the Hat on canvas (that I got from GW) and on the trash can (given to me). I was up late at times and was so excited to show the kids but when it was time to reveal my final product, I get a "oh...."! What! Are you kidding me? Oh well, I loved it!

It's a girl!

The Boss and his wife just had their first baby... it's a girl! So, to do something special for them I made a birth announcement.

Well this is it! Today I begin my first blog! Welcome to A Little Dose of Design! I've been stalking other bloggers for some time now and I guess this is my turn for others to stalk me.
